Pistol Permit Application

Pistol Permit Applications may be downloaded online and dropped off at our Department, at any time. Processing for the application is for citizens residing within the Putnam Special Services District. 

Prerequisites & Steps to complete the Pistol Permit Application

  1. You must be a U.S. Citizen.

  2. You must never have been convicted of a felony.

  3. You must be at least 21 years of age.

  4. You must submit a copy of your birth certificate or passport.

  5. You must submit a copy of a government issued ID or passport.

  6. You must submit copies of any current out of state permits.
    Temporary permits are valid for 60-days only and cannot be renewed. If your temporary permit has expired, you must reapply before applying for a state permit.

  7. You must complete and submit the Pistol Permit Application Checklist.

  8. You must complete all questions and submit the notarized Application.

  9. District Residents: Along with your notarized application, you must submit the following  payment:​

              -Check or money order made payable to "Putnam Police Department" for $158.25.  This amount covers the                   fees for processing as well as background check.​


Non-District Residents:  The Putnam Police Department will do fingerprinting for non-district residents for a fee of $25.00. You will be given your ink cards which must be submitted along with your application to your local Town Hall – along with that town's fees that apply.  All applicants will be provided with an FBI Privacy Right Notice which will need to be signed before fingerprints are performed. 


Once your temporary permit has been issued, it is your responsibility to pick up the state permit and submit a check or money order in the amount of $70.00 made out to “Treasurer, State of Connecticut” for the completed state permit.
