REPORTS OF DEPARTMENTS: NO DISCUSSION ON PREVIOUS MONTH’S REPORTS.

FIRE DEPT.:  REPORT GIVEN BY ASSISSTANT FIRE CHIEF NORMAND PERRON.

20 CALLS ANSWERED IN AUGUST FOR A TOTAL OF 276.4 MAN HOURS.

12 FIREFIGHTERS TOOK PART IN THE DEARY ROAD RACE ON 08/10/13, AND 16 FIREFIGHTERS TOOK PART IN THE PUTNAM CAR CRUISE EVENT ON 08/11/13.

RYAN WALSH IS NOW A DRIVER IN HOSE CO 1 EFFECTIVE 08/27/13.

ASS’T FIRE CHIEF NORMAND PERRON ADDRESSED THE BOARD ON THE ONGOING FIRE ALARM CALLS PROBLEM AT PUTNAM SCIENCE ACADEMY.

 

POLICE DEPT.:  INCOME OF $989.00 TAKEN IN BY DEPARTMENT THAT INCLUDES $376.00 FOR OUTSIDE POLICE SERVICES.

IN AUGUST, THE DISPATCH CENTER RECEIVED 1,035 CALLS FOR SERVICE.  POLICE OFFICERS INITIATED 56 CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS THAT RESULTED IN 27 ON-SITE CUSTODY ARRESTS.  CONTINUED INVESTIGATIONS WAS REQUIRED ON 19 OF THE REPORTED CRIMES.  A TOTAL OF 71 CRIMINAL ARRESTS WERE MADE IN AUGUST.  POLICE OFFICERS CONDUCTED 139 MOTOR VEHICLE STOPS.  61 VERBAL WARNINGS, 57 WRITTEN WARNINGS, AND 21 CITATIONS WERE ISSUED.  A TOTAL OF 13 MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS WERE INVESTIGATED.

POLICE CHIEF HAYES RECEIVED AND DENIED A GRIEVANCE FILED BY THE POLICE UNION ON DOWNTOWN WALKING BEATS.   AN APPEAL TO THE CHIEF’S DECISION WAS RECEIVED BY THE DISTRICT AUTHORITY CHAIRMAN THIS EVENING, 09/09/13.  THE DISTRICT AUTHORITY WILL ACT ON THE APPEAL AT ITS NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, 10/15/13.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  FY12/13 TRANSFER TO FIRE TRUCK RESERVE FUND

TABLE, AS ATTY. ST ONGE IS STILL WORKING ON THIS ISSUE.    

      NEW BUSINESS;  FY13/14 POLICE DEPT BUDGET LINE ITEM TRANSFER

     THERE WERE NO FUNDS BUDGETED FOR TRAINING THE NEW DOG (AMMO) BECAUSE THE

      DOG WAS RECEIVED BY THE DEPARTMENT AFTER THE BUDGET WAS FINALIZED.  CHIEF

      HAYES HAS REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE UNION THAT OFFICER

      CASTLE WILL NOT RECEIVE TRAVEL TIME FOR TRAINING AT THE ACADEMY IN MERIDEN.

      IN RETURN, 20 DAYS WILL BE ADDED BACK TO OFFICER CASTLE’S SICK TIME BENEFIT. 

     TIME WAS LOST DUE TO WORK INJURY.  THIS WOULD BE A ONE TIME ONLY AGREEMENT,

     AND WILL NOT SET A PRECEDENT.

      DOG WILL BE RETURNED TO ORIGINAL OWNER IF AGREEMENT WITH UNION FAILS.
